*** Aamir Saleem returns to the music world ***

Q1. Since when are you into this music scene?
A.
I started my music career with my first album in 1991.

Q2. Was this an inherited thing or you inculcated your musical talents yourself?
A. Well, it wasn't inherited, I just used to sing in my college days when my friends did homework for me. I used to sing to them as they engaged themselves in doing my works. They enjoyed my voice although at that time I had no concept of being a musician.

Q3. What are your teenage memories?
A. Oh! There are so many. My friends and myself were a really naughty bunch. We used to do all kinds of mischievous things. We roamed around Multan on our trail bikes and literally visited each and every part of our city. We often went to Chenab river. The most memorable one was when we used to go to the movies. We never informed our parents what we were up to and during the intervals we used to go our homes, show our faces, reassure them that we were around and then go back to the cinema. It was a lot of fun.

Q4. When did you seriously pursue music?
A. After my graduation. I started working at a hotel and from my first salary, I bought a guitar.

Q5. How were the initial days?
A. I started with the band "Image" after my graduation and participated in small concerts for three years without a penny. It was difficult, but a lot of fun as I was perfecting my art, and simultaneously, I had started recording my first album. Then I moved to Karachi in 1987.

Q6. How much time did it take to come out with your first album?
A. It took three and a half years and gladly when it came out, it was a huge success. I didn't expect it to do so well.

Q7. How many countries have you performed in?
A. I have performed in the Middle East, Germany and America.

Q8. What kind of music do you concentrate on?
A. Actually, every musician has his own style and identity. I go for mellow, soft, romantic numbers as they are my piece of cake. All my previous albums have a similar style. My music is not extraordinary, but it is something which people want to listen to and thus I come out with it.

Q9. Tell us about your recent album and why did it take so much time?
A. That's because I was out of the country and about the album, only you people can decide what it's like.

Q10. Anything new you are coming up with?
A. Yeah actually, I have something really different coming up which would amaze all my listeners. I have a Punjabi album all set, it would come out in another three to four months and the amazing thing is that this cassette is all hip hop, bhangra and dance numbers, quite unlike me.

Q11. Have you done anything for children?
A. Yes, I have an album ready and I am looking for sponsors.

Q12. What difference do you find in the music industry today and when you started music?
A. There's a huge difference and definitely it is for the better. I mean there is a lot of competition and good musicians are around. However, I believe that nowadays it is just your private relations and contacts that matter which is really discouraging for the newcomers. There's a huge difference and definitely it is for the better.

Q13. Are you satisfied with your music?
A. Yes, as far as the fans are satisfied, I'm satisfied.
